Sunday Flying
Sunday Flying
Brendan and I got to the sod farm just as Tony was arriving. Shortly there after Dave Quick and Rich R. arrived and we got the winch out and began flying. My main goal was to check out all of the winches we didn’t; use yesterday and get an idea of how the line looked. I have some work to do this week but nothing major. Ed Rau showed up but decided not to venture out in the wind and Luke walker stopped by to say hello.
Tony had his Perfect, Glauco his new Supra, Dave his tried and true Sagitta. Brendan had my Superior, Rich his Topaz and I had my Evolution. It looked like everyone was just trying to get the feel of new planes or trim some things out. Lift was around. Brendan was doing his high and down wind thing again. Rich made a great voyage up wind at low altitude up wing to get back to the field. In short we had a great day.
we packed up around 2:30 and we decided to venture down Puerque road. It was flooded about a mile past the sod farm. There is a house just east of the sod farm and they were working hard to put up a levee around it.
We also decided to drive up 79 north and see if we could get near the Mississippi. We never did make to the the river but we did get off on some side roads that were flooded out. The most prevalent scene was folks putting all their worldly belongings in to trucks and getting ready to bug out. The other noticeable thing was houses already abandoned. We got some photos of a flooded road where folks were running boasts back up the road to their house to bring things out to waiting pickups. They are even taking the water heaters and felling large trees near their houses so they do not fall on them I guess. Lumber yards are empty and stores are closed. Like the sign says on the side of the road...They call it a flood plain because it is plain it floods.
