DEVELOPING STORY

A section of wing covering sits downwind of the launch / land area during the October Thermal Duration Contest on in Foley, MO on Saturday, October 8, 2002. The section came off of Bill R.’s recently fixed Ava Pro during a launch. Speculation erupted from the pit area – “You lost an elevator.” “You lost something from your plane.” The 9″x9″ square popped off the center section on the winch launch. It floated to the ground next to the woods line. At times it seemed to go up with rising air. The section was retrieved by a club member and Bill R. taped it back on between rounds and continued the contest. The plane seemed to fly well without the section covering. He landed flew a productive flight and landed without further incident.
