Tuesday Flying

Brendan Miller

I got to the field around 10a after navigating St. Louis traffic when I arrived Wayne and fast Eddie were talking to Matt Keevan about sod, go figure, I also noticed the sprinkler was running after a few minute Matt got back to work and we got to flying. Fast Eddie had his electric Ava I think Wayne his berkut and I put the super lite volo together, I wanted to get and idea of where I was at after ten seconds of full throttle climb out, turns out it’s around 92m I know it will vary from set up to set up and wind and all that but I wanted to know. The weather was over cast but you could float around and find some light stuff but then the sun came out and the lift got better. I also wanted to get more comfortable launching low like 30-40m and with the wind being not existent today the streamer was a good indicator still sometimes you would find it sometimes you go looking and it was not where you thought it was. Ed packed up and headed on out which left Wayne and I and we tried doing the F5j thing one the first flight we both had the same read which didn’t pan out and on the second I forgot to cycle the power on the plane to reset the gliderkeeper so when I launched it read it as an emergency motor start so it goes longer than 30 seconds and also doesn’t read altitude but we flew it out. After a couple more flights Wayne headed out and I continued to fly I did really try to do low level launches while trying the reads I had which worked and didn’t but I learned a few things so it was all a success. I packed up around 2pm to beat most of the traffic on the way home. All and all it was a great day to fly with plenty of lift. You should have been there.

In one of the graphs my landing time is 9:42 which is wrong it was 9:55 I’m not sure what happened only thing I can think of is the plane slowed down to much and tripped the glider keeper.
